How does Liao work?
You speak with an AI conversation partner for about three minutes a day. Liao then shows you what you said, how a native speaker would phrase it, and builds a short lesson from your own mistakes.
Do I need to read Chinese characters?
No. Every phrase in Liao leads with pinyin, so you can start speaking on day one. Characters appear underneath as a reference for when you're ready for them.
Liao can't hear me. What should I check?
Open iOS Settings → Liao and make sure Microphone is enabled. Also confirm no other app is holding the microphone, and that your device isn't muted. Restarting the conversation re-establishes the audio session.
I finished my conversation but my streak didn't update.
Streaks update as soon as your feedback appears. If the app closed during processing, reopen it — your conversation is saved and the streak will catch up.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Profile → Settings → Delete account. You'll be asked to type DELETE to confirm. This permanently removes your profile, conversation history, learning records, and streak data.
Are my conversations private?
Yes. Liao does not retain raw microphone audio after processing, and friends only ever see whether you practiced and your streak — never your audio, transcripts, or feedback. See the Privacy Policy for full detail.
